Take the course in your own time for £50 or buy an accompanying zine kit. Grrrl Zine Fair founder Lu shares 10 years experience zine making, hosting 4 videos covering everything from idea generation, zine history, folding and binding, fonts and layouts, calls for submissions, and finally, getting stocked in stores, fundraising your issue and plenty of printing tips and tricks. The three sessions include plenty of downloadable resources and activities within our presentations.

Lu Williams

Your tutor is Lu Williams (they/them), artist, founder of Grrrl Zine Fair, co-founder of Dog Ear and visiting lecturer to institutions across the UK.

Lu studied Art Foundation at Central Saint Martins, Fine Art BA at The University of Oxford, The Ruskin School of Art and The Other MA (*TOMA) alternative art school. For the last 9 years they have been making zines, creating public art commissions, hosting workshop, teaching across the UK and regularly hosting zine workshops including Cambridge University, Nottingham University, Ravensbourne, UAL colleges CSM, LCC, Chelsea and UCL and Sotheby's Institute of Art.

What you’ll learn

Course FAQ

  • The full course for £125 includes 3 1.5hr sessions on zoom with Grrrl founder Lu Williams, walking you through each stage of the course. You'll also be sent a zine kit in advance and PDF activity sheets through each stage of the course, as well as mentoring throughout via email. The £50 course is the digital content only, without the live group sessions, mentoring or zine kit. However, you will have a ton of downloadable content including templates and 4 x session videos which include activities you can work through in your own time.

  • Every other week (3 sessions over 6 weeks) we'll join together on zoom for 1.5hrs. You'll have the chance to discuss your work as a group and ask Lu questions. We'll have sessions available on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout October - December. Email hello@grrrlzinefair.com if you'd like to book onto certain dates.

  • To get the most out of the course, its recommended to attend each session, however presentations will be uploaded for you to look back on in your own time, so this could be an option if you can't attend every session. Its also OK to have your camera / mic off during a session, as most will be guided by Lu, with an opportunity for questions at the end.
